Semester Reflection:
Humanities Semester 1 Reflection
Coming from a public school system many of these learning concepts were new. The concepts did have a large impact on my growth as a student in a new environment. For humanities I found it a load easier to get into the state of flow. This was one of the first things we learned about. This class is two hours, for me is much better, so that I can get more focused and into a state of flow so I can get done with class work effectively. Humanities opened my eyes to different views on the world not just political ones but how not everyone has been socialized to think the same that we all have options that help us understand our world better. Two that helped capture that concept was two main points of view the conflict theorist and functionalist. When we were assigned to either or it created a perspective on what others see to our regular opinions.
What I will take from humanities is everyone is different, and has different opinions and you are the only one that can express your own opinion. We do this by having Socratic seminars where we discuss what we took from a certain lesson we did. This demonstrated to me that no one has the exact same opinion as you and the only was for you to say how you felt and have these people to interpret your meaning. Also another thing we do is headspace, this was where we meditate and it helped me during class to start a state of flow. Some days I feel best when we do head space it opens my mind clams it down to where I will be able to focus but not to fall asleep. Humanities has a massive part on how I will navigate through out the world and help me understand problems in life better.
During this class I have made many new connection to people I never thought I would, these people have helped me understand this class and what I take away from it better. One way is by peer editing, when we first did peer editing I was very scared to have another student read my work. In the end I was very glad a few people did because they caught things that I never would have. For example when we wrote our Mask essay this was our first time ever doing a huge peer edit. Afterwards I felt much more confident about it. Afterwards I still had two more people edit it. Seminars were another helpful way have good discussions that benefiter everyone because we are all so close in this class. For when we do have discussions we all have our oven ideas that we listen to and interpret them together to create a larger picture together. From coming from a public school then coming to animas my growth has increased more than I ever thought any school would, this is because of the connection I’ve made and projects that have put me to the test to create and a better world now and for the future.
